In order to work with food you have to be knowledgeable in how to keep the food safe from contamination and people safe from illness.
Handwashing
Washing your hands may seem a simplistic way of preventing illness- and it is- but that doesnt mean it's not important. As a matter of fact, washing your hands is one of the easiest and effective ways you can keep illness away.
How?
-Use warm water and soap.
-Scrub hands and rinse thoroughly for approximately 20 seconds.
-Dry hand with a single use towel or air dryer.
When?
-After handling raw food.
-After handling dirty dishes.
-After handling garbage.
-After cleaning or using chemicals.
-Before putting on food service gloves.
-After removing gloves.
Double Washing
Sometimes it is necessary to wash your hands twice when handling food. some examples of these times are-
-After using the toilet and again when entering the work area.
-After blowing nose,sneezing,coughing, or touching eyes.
-before starting work.
-Anytime hands come into contact with body fluids.
-After smoking, or using tobacco products.
-After eating or drinking
